We have just finished re-desiging a client’s ring. The ring started out as a 1ct emerald cut ring with 4 prongs and a standard shank. We removed the emerald cut diamond and then designed a new bridal set from scratch. The client wanted Lucida prongs for the emerald cut with baguette cut diamonds running up to the diamond. She also wanted a matching baguette diamond band. The tricky part is with the band. The client wanted the band to fit up nearly flush with her engagement ring. So, we designed the Lucida to start out on the inside of the ring and then it curves outward when it nears the emerald cut diamond. This allows the matching diamond band to fit up just barely under the prongs on the emerald cut diamond.
This set required 50 matched baguette diamonds. Each diamond had to be 2.65mm in length by 1.25mm in width and each baguette had to be VS1 in clarity and G in color. We have a baguette specialist in New York. Once the bridal set was cast in 14kt white gold, the baguette specialist picked up the mountings and then hand matched all 50 baguettes to the mountings. Then, our setter picked up the mountings and the baguettes and began hand setting each diamond. This allows all of the diamonds to be virtually the same and match the center emerald cut. The effect is stunning. This set also has a subtle European Shank on it. This allows the rings to stay more upright on the finger and balances the rings for more comfort.
